Writing a Bibliography

(Based on the Harvard Style)

Books (Not including reference books)

  1. Author's family name comma initials comma
  2. Year comma
  3. Title in italics comma
  4. Publisher comma
  5. City of publication (not country)
  6. FULL STOP

Example:

Nicholls, C. 2003, Have Kindle, Will Travel, Pelican Books, London.


Reference Books

  1. Title of book in italics comma
  2. Year comma
  3. Edition comma
  4. Publisher comma
  5. City of publication (not country)
  6. FULL STOP

Example:

The Encyclopedia Japonica, 2004, 46th edn., Takahashi Publishing, Tokyo.


Journal Articiles

 

  1. Author's family name comma intials full stop
  2. Date comma
  3. Title of article in single quotation marks, comma
  4. Title of journal italics, comma
  5. Volume comma number comma month/season comma
  6. Page numbers of article full stop

Example:

Allen, C. 2005, 'Roppongi: Was the Rebranding a Success?', Geography Review, Vol. 12, No 4, April, pp52-58.


 

Newspaper Articles

  1. Author's family name comma initials full stop
  2. Date comma
  3. Title of article in single quotation marks, comma
  4. Title of newspaper italics, comma
  5. Date of publication comma (no -st, -nd, -rd or -th)
  6. Page numbers of article
  7. FULL STOP

DVDs/Videos/Audio Visual Resource

  1. Title italics

Web Sites

  1. Author (Person or organisation that wrote the site)
  2. Year (Year the site was created or last updated) (if you cannot find the date write n.d.) comma
  3. Name of the publisher comma
  4. City, not country, of publisher comma
  5. Viewing date comma between month and year (no -st, -nd, -rd or -th)
  6. URL in triangular brackets: < and >
  7. FULL STOP

Example:

Interviews

  1. Interviewee's family name comma initials full stop
